Growing Together: The Customer Happiness Story

This is the second post in a series about the Thankyou Payroll team’s rapid growth and changes after their successful equity crowdfunding campaign in 2017. Next up is our Customer Happiness Specialist and enthusiastic support team member, Caitlin Weich.

Hi, I’m Caitlin and I’ve just joined the Thankyou Payroll customer happiness team.

I’m one of the newest members of the Thankyou Payroll whānau, having been here a total of about 6 weeks. I joined the team with plenty of help-desk experience, but knowing nothing about payroll, so it has been a steep learning curve. Every day I learn something new and fascinating about payroll and employment law (it can get way more complex than I had originally thought!).

The parts of my job that I enjoy most are when a client calls or emails with a tricky problem and I can help them out. The more interesting and weird the challenge the more I enjoy trying to help them solve it. Sometimes clients get in touch asking about one thing and we can catch others before they become a problem. Those are great moments because you know you’ve set the client up for success.

Working at Thankyou Payroll has been a breath of fresh air. After working at several other companies that were all about profit, it is so much more satisfying and fulfilling to work for a company that has heart. I’m a bit of a greenie, so it makes me really proud when I tell my friends that I work in an office that composts our organic waste, recycles everything, and is carbon neutral. Thankyou Payroll also really cares about its employees, and I always feel like a whole person when I’m at work, not just a cog in a machine.

On top of all that, we have dogs in the office! Employees with fur babies can bring them in so they aren’t left alone at home, and us humans can get puppy cuddles whenever we need them. It’s great for wellbeing, and it makes for a really fun, relaxed environment.

This is a very exciting time to be joining Thankyou Payroll, with loads of new things being built and worked on. The legal side of payroll is a bit of a behemoth, so it’s a massive undertaking to revamp the whole system, but we’re doing it anyway!

It’s great to see the process that is going into all the design and building of things like the Employee App, a way for employees to check their details and eventually even enter in timesheets, and the biggest chunk — Version 3 of the Thankyou Payroll system. There is a discussion going on at every level around how we can make everything as simple, easy, and user-friendly as possible.

I can’t wait to see everything eventuate, and I look forward to helping keep our clients rocking and rolling through the next few stages on our development journey.
